Sunday 17 September: London to Cairo

 

Depart Heathrow 15.00 on Egyptair, flying Business Class, arriving Cairo 20.40

Depart Cairo 22.20, arrive Aswan 23.40

On arrival at Aswan Airport, you will be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel.

First Night: Old Cataract Hotel

After an extensive renovation, redesigned by French interior designer Sybille de Margerie, Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan exudes its iconic heritage enriched with a contemporary design. Dive into the magnificent pool overlooking the Nile which links the two wings of the hotel. Indulge at the luxurious spa with a wide range of rejuvenating treatments. Embark on a voyage back to another century at the 1902 restaurant or relax at the terrace bar perched above the peaceful waters of the Nile. The perfect place to lay your head on your first night in Egypt.

The following morning, after breakfast, you will be met at your hotel and transferred to the SS Sudan to begin your cruise.

Monday 18 September: Board SS Sudan

5 nights aboard in a Single Cabin Main Deck on a full board basis, including all excursions and guides.

An authentic 19th century steamer with teak decks and oriental opulence to the fore, a stay aboard the Steam Ship Sudan provides a return to the heyday of traditional luxury travel. Made famous in the movie of Agatha Christie's 'Death on the Nile', the boat has 18 cabins and five suites laid out over two decks. 

After checking into your room, lunch is served.

Afternoon visit of the Temple of Philae – the Pearl of Egypt – in Nubia, dedicated to the cult of the Goddess Isis since the 3rd Century BC.
Late afternoon free time in Aswan. Why not discover its colourful and popular souk?
Dinner on board.

 

Tuesday 19 September: Kom Ombo to Edfu to Esna

Early start sailing to Kom Ombo, north of Aswan.

Breakfast on board.
Visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, erected on the Nile banks. This singular temple was dedicated to two divinities: Horus (
the Falcon God) and Sobek (the Crocodile God).
Lunch on board while sailing to Edfu.
Late afternoon visit of the best preserved temple of the Ptolemaic Dynasty; its buildings are perfect examples of Ancient Egypt sacred architecture.
Back on board for dinner, whilst sailing to Esna.

Wednesday 20 September: Explore the Temples of Karnak and Luxor

Wake up in Esna. Breakfast on board.

Sail to Luxor, the Ancient Egyptian City of Thebes.
After lunch, there's an afternoon visit of the majestic site of Karnak, dedicated to the God Amun, patron of the New Kingdom’s Pharaohs.
Evening visit the Temple of Luxor.

The evening light particularly highlights the perfection of Amenophis III’s columns. It's where the Feast of Opet was held every year to celebrate the flooding of the Nile and the fertility of the land.
Dinner and overnight stay in Luxor.

Thursday 21 September: Sail to Qena

Sailing to Qena, north of Luxor. Only a few ships sail this splendid stretch of the river Nile where you will be able to enjoy a relaxing morning admiring both banks of the Nile.
Lunch on board, followed by a
 visit the Temple of Dendera. Dendera is the name of the spectacular temple of Hathor, goddess of love and joy,
also known for protecting women and nursing Pharaohs. Secluded at the border of cultivated land and desert, with its richly decorated chapels, its Hathor-headed columns, its obscure corridors and stairs, the unique vestige of the ancient city of Dendera is one of the best preserved monuments in Egypt.
Dinner and overnight stay in Qena.

Friday 22 September: Abydos to Luxor

An early start today for a two-hour drive to Abydos, a holy city and the cult centre of Osiris, regent of the Kingdom of the Dead and god of resurrection. During the Ancient Kingdom era, Abydos was an exceptional site of pilgrimage. The Temple of Seti I is a wonder with its colourful bas-reliefs which mark the birth of Ramesside art.
After lunch on board spend a relaxing afternoon sailing to Luxor.
Dinner and overnight in Luxor.

Saturday 23 September: Disembark in Luxor

The morning is dedicated to the discovery of the Theban necropolis, land of mysteries and god Osiris home under the New Kingdom: the Valley of the Pharaohs, whose beautifully decorated tombs which tell us about the travel of the deceased through the afterlife and visit the tomb of Ramses VI which measures 116 metres long; the Valley of the Queens, secret necropolis of the royal wives and visit the tomb of Nefertari, the best known of the wives of Ramses VI (according to the affluence, this visit is not guaranteed) the Valley of the Nobles, which is the necropolis of officials, high dignitaries and the court in general, who did not come from royalty and visit the tomb of Ramose; the Valley of Craftsmen known as Deir el-Medina, created to welcome the sculptors, painters and stonemasons who worked on the necropolises.

You will be transferred by private vehicle to Luxor Airport.
