There are numerous fabulous family orientated hotels and resorts to choose from in Greece. Here we list just 5 of our favourites. Set on a private sandy bay in Crete, Daios Cove has luxury contemporary villas and suites with private pools, plus great facilities and services, including babysitting, a Kids' Club and a crèche. There's a similar set up at Eagles Palace in Halkidiki but offers better water sports, whilst Danai Beach Resort & Villas (pictured), also in Halkidiki, tops the list for exemplary service, boutique elegance and terrific 2 bedroom pool villas, alongside the outstanding Sani Resort. For a luxury all-inclusive family holiday in the Aegean, it's hard to beat Ikos Oceania. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you would like a quotation. Or maybe you would prefer a Luxury Family Villa in Corfu or Paxos?
Savvy families book their summer holiday before the end of January to also get the best early booking discounts, which can be up to 30%. The longer you leave it, the tougher it is to find availability in a reasonably priced room category and, of course, booking a flight before prices get exorbitant.
We know all the best family resorts and will gladly advise on the pros and cons of each one to help you decide which is the best option for you and your family. As a rule of thumb, 7 night family summer holidays in the Med start at around £1,500 per person, including flights, if booked in good time. It's always best to book early to avoid disappointment and to get the resort or hotel that you're most interested in. Mauritius - tropical family playground
It may be long haul but it's in pretty much the same time zone as Europe, so you can enjoy tropical paradise without jet lag. Mauritius has a fabulous year-round climate and most think it's just a glamorous winter destination, but if you want a summer holiday bargain, and you know to be on the north west coast (somewhere like Trou aux Biches), it's also a luxury holiday option that's substantially better value than the Med. Mauritius has an incredible selection of beach resorts, from good 4* through to top notch 5*. Most have complementary kids' clubs and complementary land and water sports too - so you're not constantly delving into your wallet. The best for active families? Probably Paradis Golf & Spa Resort on Le Morne peninsula with 5km of beach; and the recently remodelled One&Only Le Saint Géran is a top contender too. See our hand-picked collection of the Best Luxury Family Beach Resorts in Mauritius
We think that the fabulous 5* Sun Gardens Dubrovnik is the best all-round family hotel in the region, by quite a margin. And it's remarkably good value too. Set beside the sparkling Adriatic, overlooking a sprinkling of islands, Sun Gardens has a spectacular array of facilities, activities and services that will keep everyone happy - whatever their age. Plus, there are 3 age-specific kids' clubs and a great new Sports Academy. It's an easy 2 hour 30 minute flight from the UK (and then a short 30 minute transfer) and there's an excellent choice of accommodation options, and we recommend the two or three bedroom private residences for families. Have a look at Sun Gardens Dubrovnik
The Canary Islands are becoming increasingly popular for winter sunshine as there are now a handful of smart, sophisticated family resorts with a great array of facilities and services. The top two are The Ritz-Carlton Abama on Tenerife's sunny south coast, from around £1,070pp, which is similar in price to the excellent (for older children) Bahia del Duque. A good (even better priced) alternative is Sheraton Fuerteventura Beach, Golf & Spa Resort from around £510pp. Prices include breakfast and airport transfers, but exclude flights (as prices vary enormously depending on season and how far in advance booked). It's a 4 hour flight down to the Canaries from the UK and you'll need to book well in advance to get what you're looking for at a reasonable price! Also, they're even better value for summer hols. Overlooking its own private bay on Turkey's beautiful south coast, Hillside Beach Club offers a truly extensive array of activities, entertainments and sports - for guests of all ages - on both land and at sea. With 3 different kids' clubs (for 3 distinct age groups), this all-inclusive resort cleverly provides everything a child could want (in a safe, supervised environment) with lots to keep the parents happy too. Like two adult-only beaches, an adult-only restaurant and two rather good spas.
On a recent visit, we met nobody who hadn't enjoyed a family holiday at Hillside Beach Club before and several families who were returning for the umteenth year. Find out more about the fun and great value Hillside Beach Club
If you're thinking of a holiday that needs to keep children, parents and grandparents happy and entertained, you will probably find it's a great deal easier to let one of our travel experts take the strain, offer suggestions and then tailor-make proposals for everyone to consider. Please see some of our ideas for Tailor-Made Multi-Generation Family Holidays
There are several outstanding and very popular family resorts on the Algarve coast. One of the best is Pine Cliffs, surrounded by pine trees and overlooking a stunning 6km long sandy beach, it's a perfect family holiday destination with lots of activities to keep everyone, whatever their age, happy and entertained. It's a short flight to Faro, followed by a 45 minute transfer - so really easy to get to. And we really like their 2 and 3 bedroom family residences, plus the Annabel Croft Tennis Academy, kids' clubs and 9 hole golf course. There are many more! Check out our recommendations for the Best Family Beach Resorts in Portugal We also have over 60 villas on our books in the Algarve, such as rustic-chic 3 bedroom Beach Cottage and super-lux 5 bedroom Villa Balbina.
Why not do something dramatically different with your family this year? Iceland's summer (if you can call it that) is no place for lolling on the beach, but the perfect climate for active adventures for intrepid families who like to explore. Unfortunately, the magical Aurora Borealis is unlikely to be spotted in the summer (come from November to February for the best odds), but with so many activities on offer during the day everyone will be fast asleep when it's dark and late! Stay somewhere like Hotel Ion in southern Iceland or combine with other hotels.
Activities on offer on the world's newest country include quad bikes, snowmobiles, hiking, bathing in thermal springs, ice tunnels, boat tours, mountain biking and riding. 7 nights from around £2,600 per person, including flights.
There are loads of family friendly hotels on the Yucatan Peninsula, but only a small handful of charming, stylish, boutique and quietly sophisticated options. One of our favourites is Hotel Esencia, set in a 50 acre private jungle estate with a spectacular and tranquil beach front location, away from the crowds of nearby Playa del Carmen (25 minutes north) and trendy Tulum (35 minutes south). With two ocean front swimming pools (one for kids), a kids' club, babysitting service, a gorgeous spa, two-bedroom villas, two restaurants and friendly, discrete service, Esencia is a popular choice for both families and couples. Set on a 2km private coastline in 230 hectares, Verdura is an exceptional resort with a wonderful sense of space. All of the rooms and suites have sea views and each blend beautifully into the landscape. The interior design by Olga Polizzi mixes an understated contemporary style with traditional Sicilian touches. Rocco Forte's stylish and wonderfully luxurious Sicilian resort offers something for everyone, whatever their age. Kids' club, swimming pools, tennis, golf, beach, spa, water sports, bicycles, yoga, fitness training...
Verdura Resort is a year-round destination but best for families during the summer holidays, when the hot summer sunshine is tempered by the coastal breezes. Outside peak summer season there's always special offers available. Explore Verdura Resort
Royal Palm Marrakech is an excellent option from Autumn to late Spring. Spanning 450 acres and just 12km outside Marrakech, this impressive resort has lots to keep everyone happy, whatever their age, including: luxury accommodation (rooms, suites and villas), a great kids' club, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis, 18 hole golf course, yoga, fitness, Spa by Clarins and extensive manicured grounds. The 'pink city' of Marrakech is nearby, so ideal for a day or night-time visit to the Medina or its other exotic cultural attractions. Have a look at Royal Palm Marrakech
If you have older children, perhaps combine with a stay in the Atlas Mountains at Kasbah Tamadot. If you prefer a family beach holiday, we recommend Paradis Plage on Morocco's wild west coast (fly to Agadir) for surf, beach, yoga, open-air cinema and complimentary kids' club. Award-winning, all-villa Banyan Tree Phuket is best from November to April, whilst popular Santiburi Beach Resort & Spa on Koh Samui is ideal during the summer holidays. Banyan Tree Phuket is set in beautiful tropical gardens amidst Laguna Phuket, a 1,000 acre destination resort, flanked by the pristine sands of Bang Tao Bay, comprising luxury hotels, restaurants and boutiques and offering a variety of activities for all the family. Guests of Banyan Tree Phuket can take advantage of all these leisure options as and when they wish, and then retreat to the calm sanctuary of Banyan Tree. Sri Lanka family winter sun holidays
The south and south west coast of Sri Lanka is an exciting and great value destination during Europe's winter months. The island's most luxurious family friendly beach resort is Cape Weligama, about 30 minutes from historic Galle. With jaw-dropping views over the Indian Ocean, this superb hotel is set within 5 hectares of beautiful gardens and is one of the best hotels in Sri Lanka - and lots to keep everyone of all ages happy. Not too far along the coast, near Tangalle, hidden on a rocky outcrop along a secluded stretch of Sri Lanka's southernmost coastline, Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort is also great for families, set amidst a coconut plantation and golden beaches with wonderful Indian Ocean views. Family resorts in the Caribbean
There are several excellent family resorts in the Caribbean, and we are happy to recommend several - covering all budgets. A perennial favourite is Carlisle Bay on Antigua's unspoilt south coast. Set on a dazzling, white sand beach in a secluded bay, against a backdrop of hills and rainforest, the resort has a range of kids' clubs to cater for and entertain toddlers to teenagers. In the school holidays, there are lots of fun programmes and activities to keep all ages entertained and, by extension, parents can switch off and relax. Our team has visited all the best family resorts in the Caribbean and will happily assist you in choosing the one that's best suited to you and your family. Please don't hesitate to contact us. Best from October to March, the Arabian Gulf is a great option for Autumn or Spring half term, plus Christmas or Easter holidays. There's lots of choice, ranging from relaxed and elegant through to super-bling. Whatever your preference, we can help you decide on the best option for you and your family. For example, Shangri-La Barr al Jissah Al Waha is a popular family beach resort near Muscat, in Oman. If you're after something more stylish and luxurious, St Regis Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi is fabulous and we really like the Thai style Anantara The Palm in Dubai (over-water villas, pictured). They all offer great value. Prices in the Gulf start at around £1,200 per person for 7 nights, including flights. As it's regularly voted the World's Best Resort we obviously need to include the perennially popular Forte Village Resort, on Sardinia's beautiful south coast, in our range of recommendations for your next family holiday. With its extraordinarily extensive range of sports, activities, services, academies and events, plus its selection of hotels, villas, bars and restaurants, it's easy to understand why this resort gets such consistently rave reviews.
It's not cheap, but does represent good value for money if booked early. Generally, you can save 20% to 30% if you book in January or February (or earlier) for a summer holiday at this truly spectacular resort.
