March 2020

Originally slated for opening in Spring 2020, but now pushed back to late 2020, clearly the meticulous restoration of a magnificent 14th century Rajasthani fort by Six Senses is taking longer than anticipated. But, as one of our favourite brands (and our clients!), we're certain that the wait will be worthwhile. We expect a gracious, elegant environment, with an emphasis on space, tranquility and personalized service. Six Senses Fort Barwara is a 3.5 hour drive from Jaipur and a 30 minute drive from Ranthambore National Park, where you can go in search of the land’s wild tigers. For a preview, see Six Senses Barwara Fort

Airelles, Versailles

February 2020

Airelles, known for its exceptionally luxe French properties is raising the bar even higher this spring with a 14-room luxury hideaway inside the glorious grounds of the magnificent Château de Versailles, outside Paris. A grand building dating from 1681 and overlooking the Orangerie and the impressive Pièce d’Eau des Suisses is being transformed into a hotel with 18th-century-style decor, a wellness centre with indoor pool and an Alain Ducasse restaurant. But the real USP is the exclusive after-hours access guests will have to the famous gardens once the tourists have departed.

Raffles, Udaipur

February 2020

Set to open in late 2020, Raffles Udaipur will be the first for Raffles in India and is expected to be a worthy competitor to the current undisputed top luxury option, namely Oberoi Udaivilas. Often referred to as the “Venice of the East,” Udaipur is located in the western state of Rajasthan and famous for its rich cultural heritage, lakes, temples and palaces. Easily accessed from Udaipur’s main attractions, Raffles will include a 1,100 sq.m. Spa, Long Bar, and Writers Bar along with a rooftop restaurant and an all-day dining restaurant, a swimming pool, and deck. Situated on an island in the middle of a lake, Raffles Udaipur will offer a truly unique base from which to explore this glorious, romantic corner of Rajasthan. In the meantime, why not take a look at our recommendations for the Best Places to Stay in Rajasthan

Aman, New York

February 2020

Billionaire’s Row is going to get a new player in late 2020 with the arrival of the Aman New York, the hotel group’s third U.S. property, and second in a city. They took over the iconic Crown Building - designed by the same architects behind Grand Central - for their grand urban project. There’s going to be a bar with sweeping views of Central Park, a wine library, and not one, but two, spa houses - and, of course, the brand's signature paired-back luxury bedrooms and suites. If you check in and never want to leave, they’re also debuting private homes in the space, the Aman Residences. Hmmm, tempting...

One & Only Portonovi, Montenegro

December 2019

With 140 rooms and villas, private residences and marina, the new One&Only Portonovi in Montenegro will be this luxury brand's first resort in Europe - due to open in Spring 2020. Stunning balcony views are the highlight with a large waterfront pool that stretches into the Adriatic coastline. It will be interesting to see how this new property compares with Regent Porto Montenegro in the super-yacht marina. We'll keep you posted!

December 2019

Historic Rajasthan is the setting for the 14th century fort that is being converted to become Six Senses Fort Barwara, a 3 hour drive from Jaipur. Originally owned by the Rajasthani Royal Family, it sits directly opposite the temple, Chauth ka Barwara Mandir. Featuring 48 suites and incorporating a palace with two temples within the walled site. A vast Six Senses Spa and fitness centre will be located in the original women’s palace, and feature an extensive Ayurveda program, meditation and Six Senses Integrated Wellness programs, plus 2 swimming pools. We're big fans of Six Senses and look forward to this new outpost opening in Spring 2020. It will no doubt be a popular inclusion in one of our Tailor-Made Holidays in Rajasthan; or take a look at our selection of the Best Boutique Hotels in Delhi, Agra & Rajasthan

November 2019

We've been very excited about the impending opening of Arctic Bath ever since we first heard about it in 2018. And, now we know it opens its unique and wildly original doors on 20 January 2020 and will be open year-round. Shaped like a doughnut and designed to look like a classic river log-jam on Lule River in Swedish Lapland, and with just 6 bedrooms, each with a sauna. If you want to marvel at the Northern Lights - it's best from September to March – and Arctic Bath is ideally placed for experiencing it. If you're desperate to venture north before the end of January, take a look at our 5 Night Winter Adventure in Swedish Lapland - combining The Ice Hotel & Treehotel.

October 2019

Following in the footsteps of its equally glamorous Singaporean sister, the iconic landmark, Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor in Siem Reap, re-opens its doors today (1 October) following a meticulous 6 month restoration. First opened in 1932, the hotel has been welcoming discerning travellers and famous faces – from Charlie Chaplin to Michelle Obama and Jackie Kennedy - to the historic heart of Cambodia for over 80 years. Deemed the last bastion of Cambodia’s Golden Age of Travel, the hotel is deeply rooted in local culture; the restoration has successfully retained its colonial charm, heritage and architectural grandeur. It's just one of our tips for Best Hotels & Boutique Hideaways in Cambodia

Legian Sire, Lombok

September 2019

We're big fans of the Legian Bali on Seminyak beach and it's neighbouring Club at The Legian with its exceptional one and two bedroom villas, so we're excited about their forthcoming new outpost on the nearby island of Lombok. Opening sometime in 2020, this picture-perfect new hotel is set to become a fabulous new Indonesian hideaway. The Legian Sire is located on one of Lombok’s finest beaches, opposite the stunning Gili Islands. An all-suite and villa resort, The Legion Sire will have 45 suites and 15 pool villas overlooking the sparkling sea. When we know more and one of our spies has visited, we'll update you. In the meantime, do take a look at our recommendations for the Best Spa Hotels & Boutique Hideaways in Bali

Villa Copenhagen, Denmark

September 2019

Great for a long weekend, the Danish capital is set to have a fab new place to stay from April 2020. Located within what was the century-old Central Post and Telegraph Head Office, Villa Copenhagen will hold a prime position next to the famous Tivoli Gardens and edgy Meatpacking District. A member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, the hotel will offer a conscious approach to luxury with a focus on all things eco-friendly. Traditional Danish and international dining options will be available here and the space has been designed to promote wellbeing and sociability. A new must-visit in the Danish capital. In the meantime, why not take a look at some of our other ideas for Big Short Breaks

Raffles Singapore

August 2019

Our spies tell us there's a feeling of electricity wafting through Singapore's historic Raffles Hotel right now. The revered property has just officially reopened to guests following extensive renovations that left the hotel completely closed for about two years. This was no ordinary makeover. With the last major renovation taking place in 1991, Raffles Hotel Singapore, which opened in 1887, needed a complete overhaul. But the challenge of course was how to retain the aura of the hotel's colonial architecture while also providing modern travelers with the tech and comforts they've come to expect in a luxury stay. And the good news is that they've succeeded. We expect this colonial gem to regain its place as the 'go to' option for Singapore visitors.

Il Palazzo Experimentale, Venice

July 2019

Venice may be wildly romantic but its hotel scene can hardly be described as hip. However, the imminent arrival (scheduled for 28 August) of trendy Parisian hospitality brand the Experimental Cocktail Club will definitely add some cachet. Il Palazzo Experimentale is partly inspired by the city’s legendary cocktail scene (think Harry’s Bar, where the bellini was created) and will have 32 rooms overlooking the Giudecca Canal in the Dorsodoro sestiere. They'll all have ECC’s trademark mini bars, stocked with the group’s own pre-made cocktails. The hotel should be a breath of fresh air for a city that tends to stay firmly planted in the traditional and, who knows, could encourage other cool brands to take over palazzi of their own. In the meantime, we'll all have to make do with traditional (but fabulous!) options like Hotel Cipriani

July 2019

Re-opening 26 July. In the two years that this pastel-colored 19th-century palace has been closed for renovation, Lisbon has exploded as the darling of the European weekend break. Its fortuitous location between the trendy Bairro Alto and Chiado neighborhood means it’ll be as much of a hit with this new generation of visitors as it was with those before. Hotel Bairro Alto will also be home to the first-ever restaurant in Lisbon from Portuguese superchef Nuno Mendez. For his first restaurant in his hometown, Mendez will focus on reinventing typical local dishes. And if you are headed here just for dinner (which is a must), be sure to come an hour early for cocktails on the terrace, overlooking Luis de Cameos Square and the sea beyond. We're pleased to have put Hotel Bairro Alto back in to our list of the Best Boutique Hideaways and Beach Resorts in Portugal

Little Dix Bay, Virgin Gorda

June 2019

Rosewood Little Dix Bay is currently undergoing a comprehensive, multi-million dollar restoration, and is expected to re-open late 2019. It's the hotel's most substantial upgrade project since the resort was founded by Laurance S. Rockefeller over 50 years ago, and includes the complete redesign of the resort’s guestrooms and suites, its three restaurants and overall enhancements to the resort’s gardens and landscaping. The renewal team promise to honour Rockefeller’s unique vision of a luxurious hideaway set amidst the pristine backdrop of Virgin Gorda, whilst introducing brand new signature suites for, they say, the ultimate in relaxation and style. In the meantime, do take a look at our hand-picked selection of the Best Boutique Beach Hotels in the Caribbean

Mandarin Oriental Jumeira Beach, Dubai

May 2019

Fans of the Mandarin Oriental looking to escape for some winter sunshine will, from late 2019, be able to jet off to Dubai and stay at the brand's luxurious new outpost in the Arabian Gulf, overlooking both the sea and Dubai’s etraordinary, glittering skyline. Mandarin Oriental Jumeira is expected to be a stunning beachfront resort with an enviable Jumeirah Beach setting and its spacious rooms, suites will be luxurious and contemporary. With six restaurants and lounges, a destination spa and kids’ club, Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai is the UAE’s most exciting new resort opening of the year. In due course, we expect to add it to our top picks for the Best Hotels & Resorts in the Arabian Gulf

Nayara Tented Camp, Costa Rica

May 2019

Opening late 2019, Nayara Tented Camp will enjoy similarly spectacular views of Arenal Volcano as its luxury sister property, adult-only Nayara Springs. The new tented camp will feature 18 luxury tents; 12 of them will be mirror image tents linked together to create a spectacular two bedroom unit that can accommodate two couples or a couple and four children. The luxury air-conditioned tents feature Nayara's signature plunge pool fed with natural hot springs, an outdoor shower, wooden floors, a four-posted bed with a canopy, and a spacious bathroom with an oversized tub. Luxurious yet eco-friendly, the tents merge with the surrounding magical rainforest. Iniala Harbour House, Malta

May 2019

Malta is best known for its large, rather ordinary, hotels. So the impending arrival of a sophisticated boutique hideaway in the form of Iniala Harbour House is a welcome addition! Set on the waterfront of St. Barbara Bastion of Valleta, Malta’s UNESCO-listed treasure trove, the hotel promises that the historical details of the building’s four sleek and stylish palazzos and vaults will be carefully and beautifully preserved and restored. Each palazzo will have a unique identity and, all combined, will feature 24 luxurious rooms and suites. A rooftop restaurant and a spa in the vaults will entice the future guests to chill after a day’s worth exploration of the beautiful capital of Malta. Expected to open late 2019. In the meantime, you may like to take a look at our collection of the Best Boutique Beach Hotels in Europe

Four Seasons, Madrid

April 2019

Welcoming, cosmopolitan and vibrant, Madrid is a city to fall in love with, and the new Four Seasons Hotel Madrid will position you right in the heart of everything that makes it so dynamic. Opening late 2019 in an historical landmark building and promising to redefine elegance, sophistication and urban luxury in the Spanish capital. The hotel will be home to 200 rooms and suites, four restaurants and bars including an expansive roof terrace, plus a fabulous spa.

Floating Hotel in Swedish Lapland

March 2019

Arctic Bath will be shaped like a doughnut and designed to look like a classic river log-jam on Lule River in Swedish Lapland. With just 6 bedrooms, each with a sauna, this quirky and very remote hideaway is set to open later this year (exact date not yet released) and will be open year-round. In summer, it will be free-floating and in winter it will be frozen in place on the river. Activities will include cold baths, saunas and wellness-spa treatments with an arctic twist, and the restaurant will focus on fresh, local ingredients. Nearby, we already feature the extraordinary Treehotel, as one of our recommendations for the Best Places to Stay in Sweden.

The St. Regis Kanai Riviera Maya

February 2019

The St. Regis Kanai Riviera Maya brings the brand’s bespoke style of luxury to this popular Mexican beach destination, becoming the brand’s third hotel in Latin America. No date has yet been formalised for its opening in 2019 but the property, originally scheduled to open in 2011 but encountered massive delays, will feature 124 guestrooms and suites, 32 villas, four restaurants, a Remede Spa, oceanfront swimming pools and two 18-hole signature golf courses designed by Jose Maria Olazabal and Nick Faldo. The 32 villas come with private pools and full access to the hotel’s facilities. This futuristically styled resort will be 10km from Playa del Carmen and 38km from Cancun airport. It's likely to soon join our list of the Best Places to Stay Along Riviera Maya

February 2019

Our favourite mountain retreat in Morocco's Atlas Mountains - just an hour from Marrakech - will shortly be completing its winter refurbishment and will re-open on 1 March. Kasbah Tamadot - one of Sir Richard Branson's collection of luxury hideaways - is a wonderful destination for a long weekend or to combine as part of one of our tailor-made tours of Morocco. We're looking forward to checking out Kasbah Tamadot's fresh new look for ourselves in mid March. Kasbah Tamadot is featured as one of our Best Hotels, Resorts & Boutique Hideaways in Morocco

Lekkerwater Beach Lodge

February 2019

A 3 hour drive north of Cape Town, in the fabulous De Hoop Nature Reserve, a new boutique hideaway is opening in May: Lekkerwater Beach Lodge at De Hoop. Undoubtedly one of the most glorious coastal reserves in Africa, and famous for some of the best whale watching on the planet, when Lekkerwater (meaning ‘the place of good water’) opens, it will offer a homely and comfortable beach experience in a magical setting, along with guidance from experienced naturalists. Each of the seven rooms are on a long private beach. Until May, our only recommendation in the Reserve is exceptional Morukuru Ocean House but you could also check out our recommendations for the Best Places to Stay in and Around Cape Town or Along the Garden Route

February 2019

With panoramic views across Phang Nga Bay's famously beautiful limestone islands, The View is quite possibly the finest and most romantic one bedroom private residence in the region. The ultra-spacious 2,422 sq.ft (225 sq.m) villa comes with an infinity-edge pool, a pool shack, private cinema, sunken dining area, plus a mezzanine floor and a fitness studio, and it's very own GEM (guest experience maker) and private chef. Plus, it benefits from all the additional facilities and services available at neighbouring Six Senses Yao Noi. The View opened a couple of weeks ago and makes a magical option for a honeymoon or special wedding anniversary!

The Hoxton Chicago

February 2019

The past year has seen the ultra-hip Hoxton brand - which originally kicked off in London's hipster enclave of choice: Shoreditch - expand to the US, opening outposts in New York and Portland. Coming up next, Hoxton has chosen the edgy and emerging Fulton Market district as the base for its Chicago venture. The Hoxton Chicago, scheduled for a spring opening, is being constructed on a site that was formerly home to a car maker and meatpacker, and will be home to a still-unnamed restaurant and bar, a rooftop pool that’s open to the public and lively public spaces. The Hoxton will add a great new option when you're next staying in the Windy City.

Oberoi Marrakech

January 2019

Located 20 minutes south of the Pink City, Oberoi Marrakech will be nestled in 25 acres of fragrant citrus orchards and ancient olive groves. Its architecture aims to pay homage to the palaces of ancient Morocco and the resort will offer 84 spacious villas and suites, all with a private, heated pool and magnificent views. The highlight will be the exquisite spa: a tranquil, light-filled space, situated on a private island on a lake offering Ayurvedic and Moroccan-inspired therapies, Moroccan hammams, a yoga pavilion and an indoor swimming pool. We are regular visitors to Marrakech and look forward to checking out the new Oberoi when it opens later this year (exact date not yet announced). In the meantime, see some of our Favourite Places to Stay in Morocco

The Legian Sire, Lombok

January 2019

We're big fans of The Legian Bali and The Club at The Legian, it's ultra-stylish all-villa property next door - both on Seminyak Beach. So it's great to hear that they're on schedule to open The Legian Sire on Lombok in June this year. It will be set on a sandy beach with unobstructed views toward the Gili Islands and the scared Mount Rinjani. Only a 25 minute flight from Bali, The Legian Sire will have with 46 suites and 16 villas surrounded by Lombok’s lush jungle. We can't wait!

Rocco Forte House, Rome

January 2019

Amongst his ambitious hotel programme for the next couple of years, we are particularly interested in the September 2019 debut of a brand-new concept, Rocco Forte House, initially launching with 5 private suites in an 18th century palazzo opposite the Spanish Steps in Rome. Rocco Forte House says it will offer guests a tailored experience with all the personalized services of a luxury hotel from a brilliantly located boutique hideaway. We'll update you when we learn more. In the meantime, you might like to take a look at a couple of Rocco's other properties we feature: Verdura, Sicily and Astoria, St Petersburg

Experimental Chalet, Verbier

December 2018

From the shores of 'White Isle' of Ibiza (at the Experimental Group's popular beach club) to the snowy slopes of Verbier, comes a new hedonistic outpost above the Farm Club: Experimental Chalet Verbier. Opening on 15 December with rooms from around £160 per night, look out for an uptick in visitors intent on partying long and hard at the Farm Club who can then stroll upstairs to their bedrooms and collapse, before hitting the slopes in - no doubt - late morning. For those looking for a more 'grown up' holiday in Verbier we highly recommend the excellent W Verbier

November 2018

Last November, five crowned lemurs were relocated to the island of Nosy Ankao just off mainland Madagascar, under the auspices of Miavana's 'Time & Tide Foundation' species translocation. Working with local partners and government authorities, the lemurs were moved from an area of high poaching to the safety of the island's forested interior. This is part of a multi-year conservation project with the Amparihirano community and the lemurs are now thriving in the forested sanctuary. But the big news is that the Foundation has just announced the birth of the first baby lemur born on the island! So, guests staying at Miavana, the sublimely luxurious island hideaway on Nosy Ankao, can now enjoy the presence of the fabled lemur without the need to head to the mainland.

Six Senses Krabey Island, Cambodia

November 2018

Galle, Sri Lanka

October 2018

This month marks the much-anticipated opening of Le Grand, Galle, a stylish and contemporary hotel with spectacular views over the Indian Ocean and UNESCO world heritage site Galle Fort. Galle is an exotic trading port whose rich cultural and architectural heritage has made it a favourite destination amongst travellers holidaying in Sri Lanka. Once we've visitied Le Grand (and it's as good as the rumours suggest) we'll add it to our website. In the meantime, why not take a look at our hand-picked collection of the best places to stay in Sri Lanka

W Xian opens near the Terracotta Warriors

October 2018

We rather like W Hotels with their hip, contemporary styling and super-lux accommodation (for example W Verbier in the Swiss Alps) so it's good news for those staying in Xian, in central China. This great city is the perfect base for accessing the magnificent Terracotta Warriors (amongst many other attractions), and whilst the Sofitel Legend remains a good option as a place to stay (despite its rather foreboding Stalinist exterior), the arrival of W Xian provides a welcome alternative. One of our team will be checking it out first hand early next year...

September 2018

Six Senses Uluwatu, Bali has just opened, adding another exciting destination to the Group’s portfolio. We're big fans of Six Senses and regularly send clients to their luxury hideaways around the world, whether it's Six Senses Yao Noi in Thailand or Six Senses Zil Pasyon in the Seychelles (and several others), so Six Senses Uluwatu is a welcome addition to the brand's tempting outposts. The new resort in Bali is set atop a rugged cliff, sharing spectacular ocean views with the island’s famed Uluwatu Temple. True to Six Senses’ inimitable style, Six Senses Uluwatu is home to 28 Sky Suites, 62 one-bedroom villas and seven two-bedroom villas that draw upon the local culture, embrace nature, and offer every creature comfort.

September 2018

Six Senses set to open in Bhutan in late 2018

August 2018

One of the year's most eagerly anticipated openings! Six Senses Resorts has nearly completed its five individual luxury lodges in five separate locations (Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey, Bumthang and Paro), but all under one name: Six Senses Bhutan. It's five unique experiences crafted into one enchanting guided journey through the magical Himalayan Kingdom - often described as the Happiest Place on Earth.

With two other luxury brands already established in the Kingdom - Aman and Como - it will be interesting to watch how everything develops in this extraordinarily beautiful, peaceful mountain kingdom.
