Best Places to Stay in Thailand

Discover our experts' recommendations for Bangkok, Golden Triangle, Chiang Mai, Khanom, Koh Samui, Krabi, Phang Nga and Phuket

Our travel specialists know Thailand intimately and will gladly tailor-make the perfect Thai holiday for you.

With prices guaranteed to be the same or better than going direct, with the security of ATOL protection and 24/7 support whilst your away, together with our expert knowledge, please get in touch by phone on 0203 019 3722 or email us and let us know your brief.

These are just some of our favourite places, listed from north to south.

Golden Triangle

Set beside the Mekong River in the far north of Thailand, overlooking Myanmar and Laos, we recommend two fabulous jungle hideaways. For top notch luxury (and prices to match), the exceptional Four Seasons Tented Camp is a once in a lifetime experience. Nearby, Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp is an excellent family friendly alternative. Flights to Chiang Rai from Bangkok take an hour, followed by another hour by road.

Chiang Mai

Thailand's northern capital is a fascinating little city, packed with temples and quaint shopping streets, and surrounded by beautiful countryside. For the ultimate in luxury and located 10 minutes outside the city, the wonderful Four Seasons Chiang Mai is our top pick, whilst Tamarind Village is a charming boutique hideaway in the heart of Chiang Mai - providing a peaceful oasis after a day out exploring. Flights to Chiang Mai from Bangkok take an hour.

Bangkok

The bustling metropolis is brimming with fabulous hotels but our top picks (leaving aside the exceptional Mandarin Oriental and The Peninsula) would be the excellent downtown Como Metropolitan for luxury seeking couples, Sala Rattanakosin for those who enjoy edgy, boutique, urban chic and lots of Bangkok for their buck, and Anantara Riverside, set in 11 acres of tropical gardens, for families. For the ultimate in sophisticated boutique luxury, choose The Siam and for a really unique romantic experience opt for their 100 year old Thai teak house: Connie's Cottage

The island of Koh Phangan is a little jewel just north of Koh Samui and Anantara Rasanada is set in a stunning location on the island's quiet north coast. It's the first and only luxurious boutique hideaway here, providing an oasis of tranquility, hidden away on a pristine sandy beach. It's also amazingly good value.

Koh Samui

Koh Samui has many wonderful boutique hideaways and beach resorts. Indeed, this delightful little island in the Gulf of Thailand offers something for everyone. If you're looking for a wellness retreat, detox, pilates or yoga holiday, we recommend Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary or the slightly less sophisticated Absolute Sanctuary. Both are for adults only. For families, Santiburi Beach Resort & Spa is a fabulous choice. For couples and families, the luxury Belmond Napasai has an excellent selection of villas, suites and residences on Mae Nam beach.

On the mainland, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand (just south of Koh Samui), Khanom is one of the country's last completely unspoilt stretches of coast. Here, on a pristine 9km beach, Aava Resort & Spa is a delightful, boutique beach hideaway (just 28 bungalows and villas) that's astonishingly good value and works well for both couples and families. It's reached by plane from Bangkok to Surat Thani (1 hour) or by ferry from Koh Samui (45 minutes).

One of the world's most beautiful views must surely be of the majestic limestone islands sprinkled across Phang Nga Bay, and Six Senses Yao Noi is in prime position to enjoy the panoramas in all its glory. Six Senses Yao Noi is in a remote and truly spectacular setting, offering luxury thatched pool villas, a sublime spa and a wonderful stretch of sandy beach. For the ultimate in super-lux romantic holidays, choose The View, a magical one bedroom villa adjacent to (and serviced by) Six Senses. Alternatively, overlooking Phang Nga Bay from Phuket's quiet east coast, the sleek and contemporary Como Point Yamu is another outstanding option.

With its cinematic limestone landscape and all-round beautiful beaches and scenery, Rayavadee is a stunning boutique resort with three beaches and a collection of magical Pavilions and Villas. Perfect for both couples and families.
