Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge, Rwanda

Comfortable, contemporary lodge - the perfect based for viewing gorillas in their natural habitat

Available as part of a tailor-made tour of the region

Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is situated in the foothills of the mighty Virungas, the chain of 15,000 feet volcanoes stretching through Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This luxury lodge is the perfect place to be based to venture into the mountains to view the gorillas in the natural habitat.

Accommodation

The lodge has five cottages, two suites and one family cottage, all offering private verandas, bathrooms and sitting rooms with fireplaces. The rooms have large beds, a dressing room and all have en-suite bathrooms. The family cottage is very similar but has an extra bedroom and bathroom. The main lodge offers the opportunity to relax with both the bar and the dining room with great views from the outdoor decks. The contemporary Rwandan ambience is created by stone buildings and terracotta roof tiles, situated around beautiful landscaped gardens.

Activities & Experiences

Generally regarded as one of the most rewarding of all wildlife experiences, gorilla treks take place each morning and depart from the Park Headquarters at around 07:30 and the Lodge's superb location is only a couple of minutes walks from the headquarters of Parc National des Volcans where the gorilla treks begin. Also on offer from the lodge are escorted walks, escorted mountain bike excursions and escorted bird watching walks in the local area.

Facilities & Services

Within the main lodge building, the bar and dining room has fireplaces to warm them during cold weather, and outside decks for al fresco drinks and meals during the warmer weather. Plus, there's a library, games rooms and a community awareness centre offering advice and interesting information on gorillas.

Weather & Seasons

Rwanda can be visited at any time of year, but long dry season from June to September is the best time for tracking gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park and for hiking in Nyungwe Forest Reserve.
