For decades, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express has been synonymous with everything that is sophisticated and glamorous in the world of luxury train travel. Since its maiden journey from Paris to Istanbul in 1883 the Orient Express has been intrinsically linked with luxury travel. Now operated by ultra-luxury brand Belmond, the train has been restored, refurbished and returned to its Art Deco-influenced origins. Today the enchantment and romance are as strong as ever and, in an age that prioritises speed and efficiency when it comes to conveying you to your end destination, the joy of travelling slowly and being on a (luxury) journey is even more alluring.
Accommodation
Following the success of the newly modelled Grand Suites, 'Paris', 'Venice' and 'Istanbul' - all of which are iconic locations visited by the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express - three additional Grand Suites complete with en-suite bathrooms, plush double beds and private seating areas have been added to the train: named 'Budapest', 'Prague' and 'Vienna', all take design inspiration from their namesake city. All are spectacularly luxurious.
The Journey
A variety of exceptional itineraries are available – the classic route from London to Venice, journeys through rural French farmlands and Swiss alpine valleys, an adventure to the edge of Europe in Istanbul and the newest itinerary, a voyage to the vibrant cultural hub of Berlin. During the ski season, four new opulent journeys from Paris go to some of the most renowned ski resorts in the French Alps – Megève and Mont Blanc, Courchevel and Les Trois Vallées, and Tignes-Val d’Isère. Skiing enthusiasts and winter wanderers can arrive and return from the slopes in the most glamorous way possible.
Facilities & Services
Travelling in its gloriously restored carriages revives the golden age of travel: a 24-hour cabin steward is on-hand throughout your journey, interiors gleam with polished wood and brass, ever-changing landscapes slip past your window and a formal black-tie dinner awaits in one of three dining cars. Cuisine is of the highest calibre, whilst the service is magnificent; breakfast and afternoon tea are served each morning in the comfort of your cabin.
