Lord Howe Island is a tiny, utterly beautiful and wildly remote island in the Tasman Sea, two hours by air from Sydney. Its diverse collection of scarce flora, fauna and prolific marine life make this a nature lover’s paradise. The island is a UNESCO World Heritage site and 75% of the island is reserved as marine park and subtropical rainforest. Visitor numbers are strictly limited, and a stay at Capella Lodge is a rare treat.
Capella Lodge has just 9 contemporary suites accommodating a maximum of 20 guests and offering views of the ocean, the lagoon and the mountains. All have timber floors and feature king beds, Bose music system, TV and DVD player, phone, wifi, safe, mini bar, and en-suite basalt stone bathroom with rain shower and Capella Spa amenities.
Activities & Experiences
Capella Lodge provides complimentary use of mountain bikes, lagoon kayaks, snorkelling equipment and DVDs, and additional activities include guided treks to the summit of Mount Gower, tennis, golf, boat excursions and deep sea fishing. Scuba divers can explore the world's most southern coral reef, a technicolour world of flora and fauna amid caves, trenches and volcanic drop-offs. Thanks to five big currents converging at the island, the richness of underwater life is superb.
Facilities & Services
The restaurant at Capella Lodge is famously excellent, plus the bar has a great wine and cocktail list and Gowers Terrace is the perfect spot to enjoy a drink and canapés while watching the sunset. The Capella Spa is compact but has a wonderful list of treatments designed to relax and rejuvenate in either an indoor or outdoor treatment area. We recommend 'Dreaming' - an indulgent 3 hour spa experience,
Weather & Seasons
Lord Howe Island is a year-round destination to visit year round but November to April is best for warm, dry weather. The winter months of May to October usually have pleasant, mild weather.
Just under 2 hours flying time from Sydney.
