Facilities & Services

The Liuwa Plain is a truly untouched wilderness area, located in the far reaches of western Zambia. To connoisseur safari-goers, it is one of Africa's ultimate safari destinations and previously the only access was on a set departure mobile safari. King Lewanika Lodge is a permanent camp, with indoor and outdoor dining options, bar, main deck and cosy camp fire.

Weather & Seasons

The main time to visit the Liuwa Plain is in the drier months from August to December, when access is relatively easy. As the dry season wears on, game-viewing becomes even more rewarding as the grass is grazed lower and wildlife concentrates around water sources. In November, the rains begin, generally in short, sharp bursts in late afternoon, enabling the pans to burst into life with flowers carpeting the ground and herds of blue wildebeest move in on their annual migration from Angola. From December to April, the plains are in flood, causing problems for access for visitors, but providing life to the wildlife that remains here year-round.
