Activities & Experiences

Beachy, carefree Essaouira is a laid-back fishing port and surfers’ paradise. Circled by impressive 18th century ramparts, the car-free medina is an explorer's delight: head out on foot to experience its animated street life, bustling fish market and colourful souk. A stretch of golden sands along the windswept Atlantic coast, Essaouira's vast beach is an easy walk from the hotel, and offers plenty of watersports as well as camel and horse rides. Stop by Madada Mogador’s concierge desk for tips on the neighbourhood’s best sights and activities; staff will happily point you to the nearby hammam for indulgent treatments and aromatic steam baths, or arrange a dinner at nearby. If it's L'Heure Bleue ask for a table in the lush courtyard by the trickling fountain.

Facilities & Services

Library, treatment room, boutique, board games, WiFi, iPod dock, and the services of a cook, if required. Right beneath the hotel in an old converted carob warehouse, La Table by Madada is an arched, bistro-style eatery with a menu that draws heavily from Essaoira's seafood-rich waters. Madada Mogador's bijou treatment room faces the ocean; indulge in a relaxing massage or get yourself sandal-ready with a mani-pedi.

Weather & Seasons

Spring (March to May) is pleasantly warm and sunny, and the landscape is lush and green. Avoid August when the town gets swamped by large numbers of visitors from home and abroad. Autumn (mid Sept to mid Nov) is also lovely, but the countryside tends to look parched.

Getting Here

Most visitors arrive via Marrakech’s Menara Airport, which you can reach from various airports in the UK with British Airways and Easyjet. Direct flights from London Gatwick take 3 hours 45 minutes. The drive from Marrakech takes 2 hours 30 minutes. Alternatively, there are direct flights with Royal Air Maroc from Paris Orly to Essaouira.

Recommendations Nearby

Madada Mogador is just one of a handful of boutique hotels in and around Essaouira that we can recommend. If you have to have a pool, go for L'Heure Bleue. If you're after something with even more facilities and that's also more family orientated, we would suggest Sofitel Essaouira.
