One of the oldest residences in the Cape is now a luxury boutique hotel that's brimming with history but is stylish and contemporary too. Steenberg Hotel is a great option if you want easy access to Cape Town (20 minutes away) but prefer a peaceful countryside setting to being in the city itself. The Steenberg Estate comprises a 24 bedroom hotel, a famously good fine-dining restaurant, a funky bar and brasserie, a spa, a winery and an 18 hole golf course. The hotel buildings date back to 1682 and have now been declared a national monument.

Catharina's, the fine dining restaurant, is excellent - even in a city with so many first class restaurants - and Bistro Sixteen82 is a terrific all day bar and dining option, with funky contemporary styling.
