Winter Palace, Luxor, Egypt

Luxor landmark with a fantastic location on the banks of the Nile

Rooms from around £75 per night, including daily breakfast. Flights and transfers at additional charge.

Set in the heart of Luxor overlooking the majestic River Nile, the Winter Palace was built to attract the aristocracy of late 19th century Europe. This romantic colonial hotel still retains the charm and atmosphere of la belle époque and has recently been renovated and refreshed. It is now run by Sofitel to a high standard. It's an excellent base from which to explore, right next to Luxor Temple, with Karnak Temple not far away

Accommodation

Stay in the historic main buildings, which are packed with colonial charm in the form of fine woods and materials. There are 86 rooms and 6 suites, which range in size and in terms of facilities. Many of the rooms have a view of either the garden or Nile.

Activities & Experiences

The Winter Palace has an outdoor heated swimming pool nestled amidst beautiful tropical gardens. There's also billiards and snooker, and volleyball facilities on site, while nearby there is a golf course. There's lots to see in and around Luxor, from the Valleys of the Kings and Queens, Karnak and Luxor Temples, the Nobles' Tombs, for all of which Vita Brevis Travel can organise sightseeing with an Egyptologist.

Families

Children are welcome at The Winter Palace. However, there are no specific facilities for them.

Facilities & Services

Winter Palace has three fabulous restaurants. 1886 is a fine dining restaurant where you can eat in the original crystal-lit salon where royals and dignitaries once dined. L'Oasis, located by the swimming pool, offers gourmet pizzas and salads. La Corniche serves international cuisine and breakfast. There are three bars and a pool.

Weather & Seasons

Egypt has year-round sun, and almost no rain. Daytime temperatures range from pleasantly warm in the winter to very hot in the summer. Northerly cities such as Cairo and Alexandria are generally about 5ºC cooler than southerly areas such as Aswan and Abu Simbel.

Getting Here
