Al Moudira, Luxor, Egypt
Exceptional boutique hideaway set between the Nile and the desert
Available as part of a tailor-made tour of the region created for you by our Egypt experts.
Set in a tranquil oasis, between the desert's edge and the fertile green fields of the West Bank of the Nile, Al Moudira is a hugely impressive boutique hideaway. It's not just the best hotel in Luxor, it’s one of the best in Egypt - an architectural pleasure dome of high vaulted ceilings, Pharaonic murals, exotic latticework and regal arches. It appears to be ancient, but it’s not yet ten years old, and is surrounded by elegant, enclosed gardens with fountains, terraces and an abundance of wild flowers.
Accommodation
All of the 54 rooms and suites are gorgeous and even the 'smallest' are enormous. The décor in the suites is nothing short of jaw-dropping and many feature beautiful murals, vaulted ceilings or a raised platform in the middle of the room where cushions encircle a fountain. The en suite bathrooms tend to be equally vast, with good showers standing above enormous baths. Quite a few have domed ceilings embedded with coloured glass. All rooms are air-conditioned and accessed from small communal courtyards, which give a sense of privacy.
Activities & Experiences
Activities include adventure trips in the desert on bicycles, horses, donkeys or camels. Of course, the big draw is The Valley of the Kings, 6km north, which is absolutely unmissable. To avoid large crowds either go early (it opens at 6am and will be teeming with tourists by 8am), or brave the midday heat. And let's not forget the Temples of Karnak, to the north of the city on the east bank. This is one of the most important sites in Luxor and the largest religious building on the earth. The Great Hypostyle Hall, where 134 vast columns soar into the sky, is one of the most staggering things you will see in Egypt. Building here started about 3,200 years ago.
We can organise expert private guides for you to maximise your experiences in and around Luxor. And it's great to know that when you return to the hotel you can refresh yourself in the pool and indulge yourself in the hammam.
Facilities & Services
Breakfast and dinner are served in the courtyard, whilst lunch can also be enjoyed beside the pool. There's also numerous shaded spots in the gardens to relax and a visit to the atmospheric hammam for an indulgent steam is definitely worthwhile.
Weather & Seasons
Egypt has year-round sun, and almost no rain. Daytime temperatures range from pleasantly warm in the winter to very hot in the summer. Northerly cities such as Cairo and Alexandria are generally about 5ºC cooler than southerly areas such as Aswan and Abu Simbel.
Getting Here
Flying time from UK to Cairo is 5 hours, followed by a 60 minute flight to Luxor and then a 20 minute private transfer. There are several daily flights, so there's no need to stay overnight in Cairo unless you wish to.
