Hotel Pigalle, Gothenburg, Sweden
Bordello chic Hotel Pigalle is comfortably Gothenburg's coolest boutique hotel
3 nights from around £350pp sharing a Classique Room, including breakfast, flights and transfers
A far cry from the pared-back minimalism of many Scandinavian design hotels, Hotel Pigalle exudes a bawdy Parisienne fin de siècle bordello chic, and is most definitely Gothenburg’s coolest boutique hotel. Perfect for a fabulous weekend away, or as the start or finishing point of a holiday exploring Sweden's wild west coast.
Accommodation
The 59 boudoir-style bedrooms are inspired by the sinful Paris of the Belle Epoch of the early 1900’s and are divided into 3 categories: Petit (best for solo travellers), Classique and Royale (which have separate sitting areas). Suite Belle, described by Vogue as 'the world's most decadent hotel suite', is the wildly romantic über-luxe option.
Activities & Experiences
The elegant and friendly city of Gothenburg is the gateway to Sweden's extraordinarily beautiful west coast and worth at least a day's exploration. Gregarious, chilled-out Gothenburg's neoclassical architecture lines its tram-rattled streets, locals sun themselves beside canals, and there's always an interesting cultural or social event going on. It's a very walkable city. Shop-lined Östra Hamngatan leads southeast across one of Gothenburg’s 17th-century canals, through verdant Kungsparken (King’s Park) to the city’s boutique and upscale bar-lined ‘Avenyn’ boulevard - and all are in strolling distance of the very well located Hotel Pigalle. Whatever your reason for visiting Gothenburg, we would definitely recommend heading north for a few days in order to explore the islands and inlets of the Bohuslän coastal region and we would be
delighted to prepare a tailor-made itinerary for you.
Facilities & Services
Hotel Pigalle proudly declares that it has no conference rooms and no spa - it's all about eating, drinking and sleeping (a bit), which is a rather refreshing attitude in an age of jack-of-all-trade hotels. Up on the top floor you'll find lively Restaurant Atelier, where the concept is to do away with concepts and simply serve seasonal local produce of the highest quality according to the chefs' whims. Come summer, there's also a rooftop bar up here which is something of a suntrap, and perfect for a preprandial. Back on the hotel's ground floor is Bar Amuse - the sort of atmospheric and cosy bar in which you could happily lose an evening sampling gems from the expansive cocktail menu.
Weather & Seasons
Gothenburg is a year round destination but is arguably at its best from late Spring to early Autumn. From May to September temperatures are warm rising to as high as 30C° in peak summer.
Getting Here
It's a 2 hour flight from London to Gothenburg, followed by a 25 minute transfer. Alternatively, it's a 3 hour train journey from Stockholm.
