Floating hotel on Sweden's west coast on the small island of Klädesholmen

Flights and transfers / car hire available as part of your tailor-made adventure in Sweden

Salt & Sill is a floating hotel on the small island of Klädesholmen, a one hour drive north of Gothenburg. Its stark modern lines provide a fabulous contrast to the traditional red fishing huts and houses of the old harbour. Originally a small seafood restaurant, Salt & Sill's owners decided to build a space in which their diners could rest after sumptuous meals at this hugely popular restaurant, and so Sweden's first floating hotel was born.

Accommodation

Drifting over the waves of Sweden's west coast amid a scattering of granite islands, the hotel has six two-storey houses built upon floating pontoons. There are 22 rooms on board with interiors displaying a modern Scandinavian style; each has a balcony or outdoor deck and the large rooftop verandas boast the best views overlooking Bohuslän's outer archipelago. For those in search of a little more luxury, there is just one suite in the hotel featuring a private rooftop Jacuzzi.

Activities & Experiences

Salt & Sill are the proud owners of the World's fastest floating sauna; rent it out for the day (or night - there's a bedroom upstairs) and take to the seas. For the classic Scandinavian experience, brave a dip in the refreshing North Sea and then warm up inside the sauna. Refreshed and rejuvenated, spend your evening in the idyllic surrounds of the archipelago indulging in a private dinner for two before settling down for a peaceful night's sleep beneath the stars. On another day, either head out kayaking or set out on the hotel's complimentary bicycles to explore Klädesholmen; we recommend cycling to Ronnang Harbour and taking the ferry across to the popular island of Astol.

Facilities & Services

It's all delightfully remote and relaxed here. You get a world-class seafood restaurant on terra firma adjacent to your light and airy 'boatel' accommodation. You're surrounded by ruggedly beautiful coastal landscape which just begs to be explored on bikes, on foot or by boat.

Weather & Seasons

Best from late Spring to early Autumn, with typically northern European weather: often sunny and gorgeous, occasionally wet and a bit chilly.

Getting Here
