Mnemba Island Lodge, Zanzibar, Tanzania

Barefoot luxury at its finest on the tiny private island of Mnemba, just off the north eastern tip of Zanzibar

Room per night from around £500 to £1,000 on all-inclusive basis. Flights available at an additional cost.

On an exclusive island just 4.5km off the north eastern coast of Zanzibar, the 10 rustic (but utterly luxurious) palm fronted bandas of Mnemba Island Lodge are hidden in the shade of a tropical forest fringed by a soft white sand beach. Surrounded by spectacular coral reefs, the lodge has easy access to some of East Africa's most

wonderful snorkeling and dive sites.

Accommodation

Mnemba Island Lodge consists of just 10 sumptuous Zanzibari bandas, each with a private butler and direct access to the beach. Each banda is built of indigenous materials, mostly woven and thatched with palm leaves. The bandas have en-suite bathrooms with a shower, double-basins, separate w.c., fresh water, ceiling fans, personal bar and a spacious outdoor veranda. Each banda also has a private beach sala with traditional Zanzibari sunbeds.

Activities & Experiences

Some of the activities to participate in at Mnemba Island Lodge include scuba diving outings (two per day), snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, yoga, windsurfing and fly–fishing. Additionally guests can arrange a wide range of Scuba diving, training and appropriate certification for beginner and advanced divers. There is also deep sea fishing for barracuda, mackerel, king fish and Marlin. Keep your eye out to try

and spot dolphins and turtles.

Facilities & Services

The dining area is adjacent to the sitting room/bar. There is a small library with a selection of books, games and magazines. Guest areas are all open-sided, cooled by sea breezes, informal and relaxed. Fresh fish and seafood is served at lunch and dinner. Baskets of fresh fruit, fish and lobsters are sailed in daily by traditional ngalawa outriggers, and in the evening a candle lit dinner at the water's edge is a magical

way to end the day, with the sand between your toes.

Weather & Seasons

Located just south of the equator, Zanzibar is a year-round destination with temperatures averaging between 24°C and 27°C throughout the year. Ideally, you should avoid November and April/May if you want to be sure of no rain.

Getting Here

8 hour 30 minute flight from London to Nairobi and then a short flight to Stonetown Airport in Zanzibar. A chauffeur will meet you at the airport and drive you where the Mnemba boat will take you on the 20 minute ride to the island.
