Sindabezi Island, Zambezi River, Zambia

5 Luxury Eco-Cottages on a private island in the Zambezi River

From £435 per night per person on all-inclusive basis

Sindabezi is a private island paradise nestled in the waters of the Zambezi River, upstream from the Victoria Falls. It is a luxurious bush camp on its own little island, with superb views over the surrounding river and plenty of activities on offer. Sindabezi provides superb views over the flood plain and an opportunity to see wildlife in the surrounding national park. The unique design of the five tented and thatched cottages allows close-up encounters with all the sights and sounds of the river and the creatures who live in and around it. Sindabezi Island is owned, operated and serviced by Tongabezi Lodge, a 10 minute boat ride away upstream.

Accommodation

Sindabezi Island has just five open-sided thatched cottages, all are spacious and luxuriously appointed with facilities that include a sun deck, outside heated shower, canopied bed and a “loo with a view.” All the cottages can be altered to have a twin or double bed and there is a delightful secluded honeymoon chalet on its own sandy beach. The island can be booked for exclusive use. Perhaps combine a stay here with a couple of nights at Tongabezi Lodge or, if you're travelling as a family or group of friends, the owner's family home, Tangala House, is also available for bookings and sleeps up to 8.

Activities & Experiences

Sindabezi Island is blissfully relaxing, surrounded by the Zambezi and offering fabulous game viewing all around, particularly on the nearby Zimbabwe river banks. Guests on the island can enjoy boat trips, sunset cruises, visits to the Victoria Falls and the Victoria Falls National Park.

Facilities & Services

Sindabezi has a circular thatched bar and seating area, several dining options under the stars, a sunrise viewing deck, camp fire, plunge pool, and an excellent on-island chef. Complimentary boat services to / from Tongabezi.

Weather & Seasons

There are two very distinct seasons here:  the wet and the dry season. These are not about local rainfall, but refer to the level of the Zambezi River. From around March through to July the river volume surges as the rainfall in Angola and Zambia from months before swells the current.  The nights are chilly and the days warm at this time of year, and The Victoria Falls are at their most dramatic. From around September to January the water levels drop, the Falls are more accessible and the views are clearer. It is worth noting that the rains come from late October to February and, combined with high temperatures (up to 40C), October and November can be very hot and humid. The drier months from October to February offer different activities during the lower water level season, such as swimming in the natural rockpool at Livingstone Island, right on the edge of the Falls.
