Benguerra Island Lodge is on a beautiful little island (11km x 5km) off the coast of Mozambique, providing rustic luxury and charm with superb service. A little slice of paradise in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The Lodge is located on the north-west side of the island, in a protected marine conservation area.
Accommodation
Benguerra Island Lodge has a choice of 3 accommodation options, each individually designed and decorated, reflecting African and Portuguese influences. There are 10 Casinhas, 2 Cabanas and a three bedroom Casa Familia. All have en-suite bathrooms with outdoor showers and generous bathtubs, as well as private decks with a plunge pool. The rooms embrace Benguerra’s unique blend of safari chic and Arabic style.
Activities & Experiences
There is so much to enjoy and discover on and around the Island, on foot, in boats, on horses or in an open Landrover. Activities include: snorkelling, sea kayaking, dhow cruises, sandbank picnics, Landrover island tours and village visits.
The Lodge has its own fully equipped dive centre as Benguerra is a paradise for both experienced and novice snorkellers and scuba divers.
For experienced riders it's possible to explore this remote island on horse-back.
Facilities & Services
Benguerra Lodge has an expansive lounge, bar and dining room – all with large wooden decks and indoor and outdoor seating areas. There's also a swimming pool and small spa. The cuisine here is fantastic and makes the most of the abundant seafood, served on the beach with your toes in the sand.
Weather & Seasons
The Bazaruto Archipelago is warm and sunny year round with temperatures averaging 25°C from May to August and over 30°C from December to March. Rain is possible from November to March, but is usually in short bursts. The sea temperature varies with the seasons and currents, and ranges between 22°C and 32°C.
Getting Here
Fly to Johannesburg for the connecting 90 minute flight to Vilanculos on the Mozambique coast. It's only 14km from Vilanculos to Benguerra and this can be achieved by plane, helicopter or boat.
