With scalloped arches, pattern-tiled floors and polished-wood, Haveli Dharampura evokes tradition and echoes similar grand houses in Rajasthan. Dating back to 1887, and tucked away down a narrow alley in Old Delhi, it’s certainly the city's most authentic boutique hideaway. Stay here for the character and experience rather than because you’re looking for a spa, fitness centre and every five-star comfort. But, if you are, you can't do better than The Imperial (below). From Delhi it's a 1 hour train journey to the Taj Mahal on the Gatimaan Express.

Built in 1931, The Imperial is a New Delhi landmark, known for its contemporary colonial style and Art Deco highlights. Located close to Connaught Place, it's perfectly located for sightseeing and shopping, and ideal for guests who appreciate history, luxury, extensive facilities, impeccable service and a charmingly formal air. You can't do better than The Imperial. From Delhi it's a 1 hour train journey to the Taj Mahal on the Gatimaan Express. Located close to the Taj Mahal, Oberoi Amarvilas is simply the best place to stay whilst in Agra. It's an opulent hotel with exceptional service, and all 102 rooms and suites have uninterrupted views of the Taj Mahal. If you don't want to splurge, we recommend 4* family friendly Trident Agra with its expansive gardens, traditional simple architecture and large swimming pool, or DoubleTree Agra for sleek, contemporary styling and great value.

Jaipur

Jaipur has a great selection of places to stay. Our favourite is probably Rajmahal Palace Jaipur originally built in 1729 by the Maharaja of Jaipur, offering luxury living close to the walled Pink City. This fabulous boutique hideaway has just 15 bedrooms and suites; set in expansive gardens and well known for its impeccable personalised service. For spectacular views of serene Mansagar Lake and the striking Aravalli Hills, The Trident Jaipur is located close to Amber Fort and is a deluxe 4* option. For closer proximity to the centre of town, Royal Heritage Haveli is a charming, elegant boutique hotel and featured in our suggested 9 night The Imperial featured as the first night in India in our suggested 9 night Tailor-Made Tour of Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan It's about a 4 hour drive to Jaipur from the Taj Mahal or a one hour flight from Delhi.

Sher Bagh is a pioneering, luxury tented camp on the edge of world–renowned Ranthambore National Park, about a 3.5 hour drive south of Jaipur. Inspired by the safari encampments of the 1920s, each tent is furnished in 'Campaign Style' and has all the comforts you could wish for on safari. Sher Bagh is well known for its excellent cuisine, impeccable friendly service and delightful Ranthambore experience, and is a member of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux hotel network.

Historic Rajasthan is the setting for the 14th century fort that is being converted to become Six Senses Barwara Fort, a 3 hour drive from Jaipur and just 30 minutes from the tigers in Ranthambore National Park. Due to open in late 2020, and originally owned by the Rajasthani Royal Family, Six Senses sits directly opposite Chauth ka Barwara Mandir temple. Featuring 48 suites and incorporating a palace with two temples within the walled site. A vast Six Senses Spa and fitness center will be located in the original women’s palace and will feature an extensive Ayurveda program, meditation and Six Senses Integrated Wellness programs. There are two swimming pools and kid’s club. We're big fans of Six Senses and look forward to this new outpost at Six Senses Barwara Fort opening.

Raas is uniquely situated in the prestigious north-eastern quarter of the Walled City at the foot of imposing Mehrangarh Fort. It's Jodhpur’s first luxury, boutique hideaway - undoubtedly the chicest address in the city. Head to Raas Jodhpur

Located between Udaipur and Jodhpur, the beautiful wilderness surrounding Suján Jawai Leopard Camp at the foot of the Aravali Mountains is home to a thriving population of leopards and is probably the best place in India to spot them. The luxurious tented camp also lies close to Jawai Bandh, one of Rajasthan’s largest reservoirs, attracting an abundance of birds and other wildlife - so this really is a fantastic destination for a multitude of reasons.

Udaipur

Udaipur is a must visit destination on any tour of Rajasthan, and offers a wide range of accommodation options. We feature the best haveli (mansion) in town, the comfortable 3* Jagat Niwas Palace, the lovely 4* Trident Udaipur and the opulent, luxurious 5* Oberoi Udaivilas. All overlook Lake Pichola and are well placed for exploring the ancient and romantic city. Just outside the city, in the beautiful Aravali Hills, is the spectacular, sophisticated and ultra-chic Raas Devigarh - perfect as a country retreat, with easy access to Udaipur.

Magnificent fort-like luxury hotel at the gateway to the Great Thar Desert, just outside Jaisalmer's city walls in western Rajasthan. Suryagarh is resplendent in ochre stone and blends beautifully with its scorched surroundings and allows guests to enjoy a luxurious desert sanctuary with easy access to the towering sand-coloured citadel of the Golden City.
