Villa Mabrouka, Essaouira, Morocco

Chic, peaceful 3 bedroom sea view luxury villa in the countryside outside Essaouira

7 nights exclusive villa rental from £4,150, including breakfast and full time maid. Flights and car hire available at an additional charge.

Designed by the architects who created the new Yves Sant Laurent Museum in Marrakech, this unique and chic single storey villa is arranged around a sheltered courtyard, which serves as an 'outdoor room'. Here the al fresco dining area is perfect for lazy long lunches, and behind it sits the superb 18m infinity pool and bespoke cushioned loungers looking out across olive groves, fields and dry stone walls to the distant sea. External steps lead to the rooftop where there is built-in cushioned seating, for admiring the sunsets, and a dining area. Inside the villa, there's an airy open-plan living space furnished with bespoke, and designer vintage pieces, striking artwork and a glass wall looking on to the terrace. This is a magical year-round hideaway.

Accommodation

The bedrooms are located in the two wings. The air-conditioned master bedroom is located in one wing with a super-king size bed, an in-room free-standing bath and access to the terrace. There are two further bedrooms, one double and one twin (both with ceiling fans), and an additional cloakroom, while a steam room with shower completes the ground floor in the second wing. The elegant open-plan living space steps down to the kitchen / dining area.

Neighbourhood

Essaouira is 19km away. It's a delightful 18th century seaside town, and the car-free Old Town is enclosed by fortified walls, with distinctive white and blue houses alongside a series of vast sandy beaches backed by sand dunes. The town’s main square is filled with cafes and meandering walkways lead to the souk (market). Also worth visiting is the harbour and watching the wooden fishing boats bringing in their day’s catch and the fish restaurants are highly recommended.

Weather & Seasons

Spring (March to May) is pleasantly warm and sunny, and the landscape is lush and green. Avoid August when the town gets swamped by large numbers of visitors from home and abroad. Autumn (mid Sept to mid Nov) is also lovely, but the countryside tends to look parched.

Getting Here

Most visitors arrive via Marrakech’s Menara Airport, which you can reach from various airports in the UK with British Airways and Easyjet. Direct flights from London Gatwick take 3 hours 45 minutes. The drive from Marrakech takes 2 hours 30 minutes. Alternatively, there are direct flights with Royal Air Maroc from Paris Orly to Essaouira.

If you would like to be inside Essaouira's Old Town, we recommend two boutique hideaways: Madada Mogador and, with a rooftop pool, L'Heure Bleue. If you're after something with even more facilities and that's also more family orientated, we would suggest Sofitel Essaouira.
