The Datai Langkawi, Malaysia

The Datai is the ultimate in luxury, intimate beach retreats

Rooms from around £300 per night. Flights and transfers at additional cost.

An ancient rainforest on the north western tip of Langkawi Island is home to The Datai, a luxury romantic hideaway bordered by a white sandy beach and turquoise Andaman Sea. Perfectly at ease in its tropical surroundings, The Datai is famed for excellent, friendly service, a relaxed, intimate atmosphere and accommodation that blends local materials with contemporary design. The Datai is the perfect beach retreat.

Accommodation

The Datai's rooms, villas and suites, all with spacious bedrooms, living areas and private verandas, are inspired by local architecture, featuring exposed beams, polished wooden floors and bamboo screens among the understated décor. All boast amazing views of the natural landscape - be it the lush jungle or the shimmering Andaman Sea, where only Tarutao Island punctures the horizon.

Activities & Experiences

The Datai hosts wonderful group cookery classes every Friday, as well as private options. Join one of the complimentary tours, led by naturalist Irshad Mobarak, who will unveil the mysteries of the 10 million year old rainforest, home to wildlife rarely found anywhere else in the world. There's also a resident marine biologist. Step aboard Naga Pelangi, a beautiful wooden schooner, for a tour around Langkawi's archipelago. Other activities include watersports, scuba diving nearby, golf and mountain biking.

Facilities & Services

The hotel's four restaurants and bars offer a great range of cuisine. The Gulai House is an experience in itself, an open-air restaurant set in the forest serving Malaysia and Indian curries. The Dining Room is the main restaurant where you will enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet. Down on the beach you have the Beach Club which is great for lunches and there is The Pavilion which is a lovely spot for some Thai cuisine in the evening. In villa dining is also available as is private dining around the resort. There are two swimming pools (the top one by the dining room is adults only), watersports centre for non-motorised watersports, tennis courts, fitness centre with personal trainers, library and a blissful Spa. The nearby ERnie Els designed championship golf course is an absolute must for golfers.
