Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang, Malaysia

Luxurious hotel reflecting the opulence of the British colonial era, set in UNESCO George Town

Only available as part of a tailor-made tour of the region

Set in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of George Town on the island of Penang, overlooking the Straits of Malacca, the E & O embodies the elegance of the British colonial era and has been hosting discerning travellers for over a century. Its grand main building comprises two wings: the new Victory Annexe (opened 2013) and the original Heritage Wing built in 1885, retaining much of its historic charm, with dark mahogany and rich fabrics affording a true taste of oriental opulence.

Accommodation

During a stay in one of the Heritage Wing's 100 luxurious Suites you will benefit from your own personal E&O butler who will cater to your every need, allowing you to step back in time to the glamorous golden age, while the contemporary Victory Annexe houses 122 elegant Studio Suites and 4 Corner Suites.

Activities & Experiences

An in-depth tour of George Town is a must, and our expert guides can provide everything you'll need and need to know. Another must is the Kek Lok Si Temple: is a majestic Buddhist Taoist temple with its imposing 10,000 Buddha Pagodas. From there, ascend over 800m up Penang Hill using a Swiss funicular railway that passes through hill farms and lush tropical jungles. During the ride, enjoy breath-taking views of Penang.

Facilities & Services

Dining at the E & O is an epicurean treat as the hotel is home to the innovative fusion restaurant 1885, named for the year that the hotel was first established, where you can enjoy classic yet contemporary cuisine accompanied by an impressive selection of wines in the finest traditions of colonial style dining. If you prefer something lighter, the Poolside Terrace bar and restaurant located in the Victory Annexe serves light snacks and refreshments overlooking the Andaman Sea, and we love the dark and exclusive club style of Farquhar's Bar for a round of sundowners.

Other facilities include a state of the art gym, yoga and cookery classes, infinity pool complete with a relaxing poolside terrace.

Weather & Seasons

The driest and warmest months in Penang are January and February. The wettest month is October, but the rainy season actually runs from March to December.
